‘In stock’ online but not on the shelf: how to check before you drive
Retailers publish availability from their own systems, and those systems are not always in sync with the shop floor. Understanding the gap saves you a wasted trip.
Why the numbers disagree
Online stock counts often include units reserved for click & collect, damaged returns, or deliveries still being unpacked. A '1 in stock' can evaporate before you arrive.
Call ahead and reserve
The safest move is to phone the store and ask them to set the unit aside. Most chains will hold an item for a few hours, which is more than enough time during a restock rush.
Trust real-time readings
A monitor that reads the retailer's own availability every few minutes gets you far closer to the truth than a page you loaded an hour ago.
